Supporting Mental Healthcare
The PlatoWork headset uses TES technology. TES stands for transcranial electrical stimulation (commonly also referred to as tDCS or tACS) and is an evidence-based, non-invasive, neuromodulation technique for supporting the treatment of psychiatric and psychological conditions. TES can be beneficially combined with e.g. pharmacological interventions or psychotherapy.
PlatoScience products are not standalone treatments but supportive tools for professional healthcare providers.

Suggested Clinical applications
Depression
There is level A evidence (definitely effective) for TES stimulation over the left prefrontal cortex to improve depression symptoms. No specific tasks are required by the client and they can wear the TES headset in the comfort of their own home.
Cravings/addiction
There is level B evidence (probably effective) for TES stimulation over the right prefrontal cortex to reduce cravings in various addiction disorders (nicotine, alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, gambling, etc).
TMS Maintenance
Following succesful TMS treatment, TES stimulation can be a valuable tool in order to prevent relapse and maintain the mental health of your patients

Neuromodulation with TES
The brain is fascinating as it constantly changes and adapts to demands that it receives. Neuroplasticity is the brain physically changing and creating new connections to improve information processing capabilities.
TES enhances neuroplasticity by accelerating the rate of change and working with the brain to reach higher levels of connectivity faster. It delivers a microcurrent to the regions of the brain that include mood, attention, motor control, working memory and other higher cognitive functions.
The PlatoWork headset uses a type of TES called tDCS. In tDCS, two or more electrodes are placed on the scalp and a weak current is sent between them.
Where the current enters, neuronal firing increases. Where the current exits, the firing decreases.
tDCS has level A and level B evidence for a number of treatments, and the PlatoWork headset makes it easy for any clinician to offer this technology as a supportive tool for existing treatments.
